“Family is a unique gift that needs to be appreciated and treasured, even when they’re driving you crazy. As much as they make you mad, interrupt you, annoy you, curse at you, and try to control you, these are the people who know you best and love you. – Jenna Morasca”
I have a family and that is a gift. There are many people who don’t have the best family, but they make the best of their situation. We sometimes forget how important family is to us. Family is important and we shouldn’t take it for granted.
Ohana means “family” in Hawaiian. “Family” is a word which many people know but only a few truly understand. The word “family” is defined as “a fundamental social group in society.” However, Family is much more than what can be described in words. To me, family means love and acceptance. A family is made from love. This love is unconditional. Even though a family can get annoying, everyone still loves each other.
My family has been there for me through the best and worst. Families keep you grounded. They never leave you. When I was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma, my family was there for me. They supported me through my treatment. My mom and dad never lost hope and helped me fight. When I feel bad my family is always there for me. They never leave my side. Family is the biggest part of anyone’s life. You can never forget about your beginnings. In this world of doubt and danger, my family has always been there for me holding their arms open to me with love.
Without my family, I would be nowhere. My family made me the caring person I am and taught me the difference between right and wrong. Sometimes I forget to acknowledge this gift, a family who supports me for the better and the worse. I have friends, but none of them will ever mean as much as my family does to me. Families are incredible and they’re unique gifts that should be treasured.
Occasionally, on the news, a story about an abusive family appears. Realistically, this is extremely difficult to fathom. Imagine living in a household with people who aren’t loving and caring. Many times, anyone (including me) take family for granted. What we don’t realize is that family is so important. It is a beautiful thing. The more we take our family for granted, the less time we have with them. The less time we have with the people we love. We need family. Everyone does. So don’t take them for granted.
